“This spiritual love child of Sade and D’Angelo mixes sweet soul vocals, jazz funk instrumentation and hip hop rhythms by underground Bay Area beatmasters. Goapele can kick it in the streets as in the lounge.” ~RollingStone

Goapele started as a very successful independent artist who emerged in a big way from the SF Bay area and achieved world renowned success with her debut album and ep, “Closer” and “Even Closer”, both of which featured the now classic world wide sensation, “Closer To My Dreams.”  Goapele’s most recent album, the critically acclaimed “Break of Dawn” was released in Fall of 2011 and features the hit single “Play“, which has been a staple at radio since it’s release. That single was followed up by “Tears On My Pillow” with a video that reached over 300,000 views in its first week. OkayPlayer.com called it “Simple, classic and heartbreakingly beautiful”. Vogue Italy featured her as the “look of the day” and her most recent video release “Undertow” was featured on Vevo.

From Yoshi’s in San Francisco to Essence Festival in New Orleans, and onto Summer Stage in New York, Goapele has toured intimate venues to destination festivals. She contributed an original song called “Running‘” to the soundtrack and made her film debut in “Sparkle” starring the great Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks. Goapele is prominently featured in the films trailer and can be seen in the music video for “Celebrate“. She also contributed “Play” as feature song in Middle of Nowhere that she performed for special engagements at Sundance, Lexus’s Verses and Flow television series and for Grey Goose’s Rising Icon monthly jam session. Her song “For Love” was also featured in Prada’s Miu Miu short film “The Door” by Ava Duvernay which you should not miss.

The spirit of Closer lives on, and Goapele continues to inspire young people and up-and-coming artists through Pepsi’s 2012 Grammy Campaign 5 Questions.  Her dedication to philanthropic work never ceases. During the pre-grammy celebrations, she performed at Garth Trinidad’s (KCRW) Mojamoja event which benefit Darfuri Women and worked with the Asomugha Foundation, a non-profit providing educational opportunities for disadvantaged youth in the US and underprivileged orphans and widows in Africa. In 2013, she introduced a new line of shirts with Wildlife Works, a carbon-neutral fashion company that protects wildlife and forests in Kenya. Proceeds from these tees also go to supporting sustainable jobs at Wildlife’s sanctuary. For her work, she has been honored with an Inspiration Award in Community Leadership by Oakland Digital.
